4 Things Needed For Achieving Your Goals

Almost everyone sets goals, but to me you need 4 things to achieve your goals: the right mindset, focus, action and follow though!

When you’re a business owner you can’t just “go to work” five days a week doing the typical 9-5 job; quite often your business consumes you and your time! You’re often juggling what seems like 20 balls in the air at once; that can be stressful enough – add things going on in your personal life and the roller coaster ride begins. Late 2016/early 2017 I was dealing with some big personal challenges. I felt uneasy, distracted, worried and not at all sure how I was going to keep things moving in my business while dealing with other unrelated challenges. I don’t recall how, but I came across Todd Hermann’s 90 Day-Year program!

I learned so much from Todd and his program; in fact, I proudly say I made it through this difficult time! I not only kept things moving forward in my business while dealing with personal challenges, but I implemented strategies and systems that I had no direction for previously. In the first 3 months of 2017 I planted the seeds for a solid foundation of a growing business. Despite being in business for years, I realized there were things I was missing. The best part about it is you don’t have to worry about competing with others; Todd encourages you to run your own race. He works with business owners in 5 different stages: dream-up/start-up/ramp-up/scale up/leader up.

Apparently there’s this specific “brain cycle pattern” that explains why some entrepreneurs (raising my hand) drown in constant anxiety, self-doubt, procrastination, and/or comparison to their peers…

While others achieve almost effortless momentum, steady wins and compounded confidence.

Letting Go!

I came across this quote today “At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.” (Heather Hepler.) So many times in life we have dreams, for ourselves and for others (especially our children) or we expect something going on in our lives to have a certain outcome. When it doesn’t go our way I think most of us get disappointed or frustrated. We’ve thought about something for so long we can’t give up on the dream or thought. That mentality makes us stuck; it makes it very difficult to move on with many aspects of our lives. In reality we should “let go”; we should remind ourselves that 1) we cannot control everything, and 2) our dreams or expectations aren’t necessarily going to agree with others, especially our kids. We have to let others live their lives as they choose. In regards to ourselves, we have to remember that things happen for a reason and look with hope that perhaps there’s a new and better opportunity out there for us. If something doesn’t go your way or makes you frustrated “Let it Go and Move On!”

Inspiration…

I was watching some of the Cubs game last night in the final game of the World Series and noticed the expressions and actions of the fans in the stands when they would swipe the TV view close up. You could see anticipation, excitement, nail biting, and tears among other things. A thought came to mind that it was somewhat amazing all the emotions fans were feeling on something that really had no direct impact on their lives. It would be a short-term feeling for which none of them played any direct role. I had to wonder how come it is so easy for large numbers of people to bond over something so simple as a sporting event or outcome. That’s all they have, a commonality for the love of a sports team. I’ve been there too – every time the Blackhawks have gone for the Stanley Cup. I have felt some connection with the team, happiness for the players achieving a lifetime dream, but I’m not sure why. Does anyone know? There are so many more important things in life such as family, health, jobs, worldly issues, safety, and yet America is at such odds, but something as simple as a baseball game brings everyone together. Have you ever stopped to think about this? I think it has something to do with hope and dreams, two things that are so vital to our existence. Without it I’m not sure where we all would really be in life!

PERSEVERANCE!!

Have you ever been smooth sailing on your path of life and come to a fork in the road? Maybe it wasn’t just like that, but more like you were just going on with your everyday life and felt like you were in a rut? One of the best things to have when in either situation is perseverance. Think of it as not having quitting as an option, but forging ahead. The way I look at it, perseverance is not necessarily sticking with a path you don’t want, but being true to yourself. If there’s a dream you have most likely you can’t go directly to accomplishing that dream or reaching that goal, but you can keep taking steps towards those dreams until you reach them. Persevere – one step at a time! If you’re stuck in a rut, evaluate. Is it just a passing thing that you have to get through before being happy again? If so, keep pushing through one day at a time. Is it something that you’re really unhappy with and need a change from? Find a solution or look for an alternative. Persevere! Stay the course until you find that something that picks you up out of the rut. I think we’ve all been there and quite often we have just wanted to quit or run away, but that’s the easy way out. The things in life really worth having or accomplishing take hard work so never give up – Persevere!
